A r'oko ojo aiye 'e d'ale
B'ekolo ba ju'ba ile

Alejo to ba wo'le ti ko ju'ba
O d'eni nwon nmu so
Emi Alayo 'ka
Mo ju'ba o
Ki nma ba d'eni mi muso
The above is an introductory verse from the Yoruba diaspora. It is a greeting to the powers of the Universe, offering obeisance and respect, so that the visitor does not become a prisoner. It literarily translates as follows:
I offer and pay my respects
When a child offers and pays his/her respects, he/she gets to live long
When the earthworm offers and pays respects to the soil, the soil opens up for it.
When the goat entered and did not offer and pay respect, he became a prisoner,
When the lamb entered and did not offer and pay respect, he became a prisoner,
A visitor that enters and fails to offer and pay respect, soon becomes a prisoner.
I, Alayo, the wicked gamer, offer and pay my respect,
So that I won't become a prisoner.
